An HR Managed Services in the mining industry client was transitioning several employees to new Supervisor and Manager positions within their Leadership Team, those of which had capable technical skills however less experience with People Management. WCA Solutions identified this gap and suggested for the company to engage in their Elevate Leadership Program to build and develop the necessary skills for these Leaders to maximise employee engagement and reduce employee turnover.
The client decided to engage in the 24 month program, covering 24 different modules. WCA Solutions discussed with the Managing Director the different types of topics they can conduct and the recommendations for their business. The Managing Director chose the relevant topics and discussion was held around the benefits of the training and how WCA Solutions would tailor examples and delivery to the industry and Client where required.
Due to these conversations, the Client was completely aware of what the training would provide and a plan was set for delivery. The ongoing risk was low engagement from the employees however this would be minimised through WCA Solutions training techniques to ensure the employees seek value in the training sessions.
The training program commenced, with two sessions run monthly. The second session each month being a repeat session due to rosters and other time constraints allowing supervisors two opportunities to attend. Due to the distributed geographic locations these training sessions are conducted over Microsoft Teams and the content is shared at the conclusion of the session. For a further information about the program check visit our Leadership and Development program page here.
WCA Solutions Leadership Development training modules contain diverse theories and content which WCA Solutions then apply to relevant examples for the Client. The sessions are highly interactive and may include exercises which allow the Leaders to observe their own management style or reflect on how they would navigate certain situations.
For example, within the Managing Conflict module we conduct an exercise based on a theory where the Supervisor/Manager is given options and they pick the most relevant to themselves. We then go through an analysis of the answers and allow for sharing and discussion on the results. This exercise allows for Supervisors/Managers experienced or inexperienced to reflect and assess their own style of managing conflict and provides them with tools and skills on how to address these situations in the future. It allows for conversation where one employees sharing and WCA Solutions examples and input can assist another employee in learning new styles and techniques.
Overall, the Leadership Development training with our Mining Services Contractor client with their FIFO Supervisors has been a great success. The diverse topics ensures the sessions aren’t repetitive however they are conducted in a way to allow for linkage and growth on relevant skills.
