Case Study: International Fisheries Business

Since 2008, WCA has provided HR support to this successful and established international fisheries business operating from a number of national locations, including initial and ongoing coaching leadership and management coaching, through to development of HR infrastructure incorporating policies, procedures, job descriptions and employment contracts.

In mid-2018 WCA was engaged by the HR Manager to complete a Core HR and IR Audit to ensure HR best practice.

WCA reviewed current documented policies, procedures, templates and forms to ensure legislative compliance and best practice. Additionally, a short online survey was conducted with all Executive staff to gain a greater understanding of organisational requirements and the current delivery of HR practices.

Upon completion of the Audit, WCA presented the findings to the HR and Office Manager who further engaged WCA to implement key recommendations from the Audit as Phase 2 activities, including:

  • Updating all policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practice;
  • Updating current Executive position descriptions to appropriately reflect the roles and responsibilities of each position;
  • Developing current and compliant employment contracts aligned with relevant Modern Awards for full-time, part-time and casual staff; and
  • Developing a simplified performance appraisal form, enabling the agreed objectives for each role to be discussed and staff to be rated against the agreed measures within the updated position descriptions.

Since this time WCA has been engaged to advise and support them in an organisational restructure and a variety of complex ad-hoc Industrial Relations compliance matters and in 2021 WCA has completed a full review and update of all HR/IR policies and procedures to meet Board requirements.
